LiquidX
I have to rig 3 Sanyo XP-56 projectors for a show that will project onto stretch sets used by trapeze artists. The client wants a vertical picture on the fabric and not the traditional horizontal picture. I have heard that it is not possible to rig the XP-56 projectors on their side, due to the way the cooling system are designed on these projectors. Is this true? Are there any other way to get the same vertical result with the same projectors?
AndrewR
Check the manual to see if you can operate it on its side. As for other options... either get the images you are projecting edited (rotated 90 degrees, and maybe letterboxed to make them the right shape) Or maybe even look at hiring a scaler unit that can rotate the images for you. Pete McCrea
There have been several topics along this line previously. Use the search for more details. In summary, not recommended due to lamp design and cooling. Most units designed to run about ±5 degrees or thereabouts on the horizontal axis. Either mask the images with a vision mixer or scaler to give portrait images the height of the projectors image device (768 pixels high on the XP57's), or create the projected images with black borders and project them 4:3 but with blank sides. Most of the Christie and Barco large format (10K + Lumens) have the ability to do horizontal and vertical blends, or can be achieved with Barco Encore system. Taking two projectors stacked would give a 4:6 image ratio.

Also agree with methods above, christie/barco stacked and blended..easy but expensive option.
