sah1510
Hey all, I found this recently and I was wondering if the software could be used/adapted to be able to use it without the v4? I know that many of you will say that the hardware is more stable (and just better anyway!), and I agree, but I am just wondering!! thanks, Scott. peternewman
Yes, relatively easily. Its using the V4s MIDI output to control the computer. So substitute the V4 for anything else that can produce MIDI, probably chuck in MIDI-OX/MIDI Yoke for any issues/mapping of the MIDI data, and Bob is your mothers brother! peternewman
Currently fairly stuby articles on the wiki, MIDI-OX, MIDI Yoke. Any further questions just ask.

Bobbsy
Okay. I admit defeat. Peter, I've read this 3 or 4 times and can't see how this could work without the V4 (or at least SOME for of video hardware attached. What am I missing? As far as I can see, the V4 is providing the video input/output connections and necessary frame syncs etc to permit the actual mixing. The software the OP has found is providing a different control surface which is fine, but without the hardware to provide the IO, how are you going to use it? I'm suffering sleep deprivation here so put me out of my misery. What am I missing? sah1510
As far as I was aware, it is used along with Livid Union and some clips can come from there. If you look at the picture with the MacBook, you can see some form of a clip bank (which I presume is from Union) hmmm....
peternewman
Its my understanding that the software is a media server Bob, and its just using the V4 as a MIDI control panel, so can therefore be replaced with any other MIDI device, either hardware or software. sah1510
eh, erm... I concur!? I have just downloaded the trial for Union, but I seem to have a problem and I think its to do with quicktime... grr!
Bobbsy
Ah...thanks Peter. I saw the words "vision mixer" and assumed live sources, not just stuff already on the computer. Bob
