If as you say the venue is permanently closed then look at recycling much more than the loose weights! The frames cradles and bars will all be steel too! If your group has the rights and skills to salvage the lot why leave it for the demolition gang's beer money.

Just check that this isn't a risk assessment too far.

In this job gravity and freefall are not really suitable.

Freefall definitely is out, as is an uncontrolled descent with or without heath robinson counterweight arrangements.

Gravity, however, can be used to your advantage. When lowering, friction is your friend.

Quite right. Pehaps enough to pay for the services of a rigger to either come in and give you a hand, or set up a system and get you started. Failing that, tree surgeons know a thing or two about lowering - skills easily transferable to this situation with a little imagination.

To the OP:

Where are you?

Hi Seano,

If the weights are standard Halls c/w pieces, we might be interested in buying them - as long as they survive the builders chute/cellerman pig interface....cast steel/iron can be rather brittle, so beware!

We might be prepared to pay slightly more than you local scrap merchant as well....as long as they arrive in a reasonable condition....!

Ping me a mail off site to negotiate a deal....!

The weights are Hall weights and are 11kgs. They are rectangular with lugs on each end. Overall length is 32cm length inside lugs is 25cm and they are 15cm wide. We are just over an hour from Holyhead.
