On the other hand, we still have lead flashing on roofs, which are getting regularly pelted with increasingly acidic rainfall, and washing straight into the sewage system. Surely that's a bigger, and more urgent health risk?

 

The liquid that accumulates at the bottom of landfill sites is potentially more aggressive than acid rain. The reduction of coal powered power stations, and stack gas cleaning means that there should be lower Nox and Sox released into the air, hence not quite as much acid rain.

 

Can't really say for sure though - I gave this environmental stuff up 10 years ago ;-)
