Rigging Lights With Cable Ties...

(This same theatre has a roof vent right above the fly space, which is designed to open in teh event of a fire. The idea is taht this draws the smoke away from the audience and up into the fly gallery. This sounds like a good idea, until you realise that you then have a tall, narrowing space above the stage, with an opening on top - forming what is know as a chimney. Thus this vent will make the fire worse. Actually, I am pretty certain that the Assembly rooms will one day burn to the ground completely and utterly.)

But if the audience can all get out unharmed because the auditorium is smoke-free, then surely that's no bad thing.

Oddly enough most architects are familiar with this phenomena, thats why proscenium arch theatres have safety curtains. Unless it doesn't have an Iron, cause that would just be crazy!

This is slightly going back to nearer the start of the post, but Health and Safety Legislation states that the employee has to take responsibility for his/her actions. In other words if you know that hanging lamps with cables ties is a bad move then YOU and not the manager ultimately takes responsibility for any accidents. Something to think about when you are asked by management to do stupid things

Not so sure, I cant find the exact wording , but I think "equal" may be a fairer way of describing the employee/manager role wrt H & S

It is illegal for your employer to discipline you for taking action on health and safety grounds, so if you're sure what you're being told to do is unsafe, refuse to do it.

If you've got a stuborn employer it could end up in an employment tribunal but that's better than being in court for manslaughter!

Hi Tom, and welcome to the Blue Room.

One quick request - part of the T & C for this forum is for all contributors to use proper spelling, punctuation and grammar as far as possible.

Unfortunately, your posts seem to run off at a sprint, and take 2 or 3 goes to separate the intent of the text.

Please try to keep the standard of posts up! :D :( :(

Cheers
