kidlighter
Hi, While I was browsing through the data sheet for the amp I read this at the bottom? '2 ohm power is time limited by circuit breaker' is this normal? its the Peavey IPR 1600 btw, Thanks :)
pete10uk
Sounds to me as if the amp can't cope with 2 ohm. It will be a thermal cut out not a "circuit breaker". I certainly wouldn't run it at 2 ohm, it's like a game of buckeroo!
csg
The IPR1600 does have a current trip / circuit breaker that will remove power to the amp if t is driven into 2 ohm loads hard. It is designed to operate only to protect the amp from major abuse, and is more likely to actuate under bench test conditions rather than real world use when operating the amp with headroom. Of course, if you run this amp into 2 ohm loads and run it into clip, you may well trip the breaker. the amp is however perfectly 2 ohm stable is used sensibly - but of course 4 or 8 ohm loads would be preferable. Several different peavy amps have such trips - the GPS3400 is one other example.
