Powder extinguisher - alternatives?

+1 that Powder extinguishers are a laxative, also any fine powder is an fire risk, we have a flour mill nearby & they have had quite a few explosions in the past. Having had to use a powder extinguisher many years ago the mess was phenomenal.

Cirque du Soleil created a beach using cork (on Crisis control programme on Quest channel about a month back). Even that had to be set to a specific moisture content for dust control using a pretty ingenious method.

Another reason to avoid talcum powder is one of its uses is as a dry lubricant.

 

On a related note, if you would like to create your own ice rink simply spread a couple of bottles of talc on your stage.

I would recommend the plastic snow particles, this should show up better and be a much easier clean up.

 

From personal experience, sand can be a real pain to clear up and be damaging to the floor. I worked for a venue that wanted a beach theme, so they covered the dance floor in sand. Needless to say with a few hundred people throwing some moves, the sandpaper effect kicked in and the floor was due a varnish!

I remember a community group that held a halloween party which degenerated into an icing sugar fight, the floor needed sanded down and revarnished afterwards.

If you look at snow, give snow business a bell they will have a whole WORLD of ideas and particle sizes.
