So the solution...

For the other thread I have running [dancing trees] I purchased a roll of led tape to try and it was totally unsuitable. I cut a length, folded it in half, stuck it sticky to sticky and slipped it into the tube, it was a bit floppy but I felt OK . By the time I'd done the same with another piece the first had almost completely come unstuck and twisted round. MKII is a strip of white plastic [cut from the offcut of a bath panel] with the strip stuck on both sides and about this time I realised the concerns raised by Musht about the sticky being poor. [this is a very cheap roll and I suspect poorer quality than others] so I tied round the plastic and 2 tapes which polyester lacing twine.

I now have 4 lengths amounting to 3.7m terminated onto 4 diodes [bridge rectifier] running just under 2A at 9V. I tried 12V & 2.6A but very bright. Total time spent? Far to b****y long for a Christmas dec smile.gif
