Martin Mac700 Profile with DRER error

We have a Mac700 Profile that is exhibiting a problem with its pan control. The display shows DRER (Driver Error) shortly after startup and while the unit still pans under control, it makes a good deal more noise about it than usual. As this was such a widespread fixture back in the day, I just wondered if anyone has cured this issue in the past? I wonder whether a channel has blown in one of the stepper controllers (the main board is full of ST L6204 bridge drivers) or whether it might be something further up the chain, seeing as how the controller has sensed the problem. Thank you

If the drivers are socketed, swap the one(s) in the suspect channel with another one and see if that moves the problem elsewhere.
